Politics of Northern Cyprus Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is not recognized by the international community except Turkey (Turkey is not recognized the legitimacy of the Government of the Republic of Cyprus). According to the Constitution of the TRNC, it is a democratic republic governed by the president, elected for five years.
