Lefke is a small town nestled below the Troodos Mountains, 74 km from Nicosia. Inhabitants of this town will be very quick to tell you their citrus fruits are the tastiest North or South of the Island. The Turkish character is reflected by the dominance of the Ottoman Empire for more than three hundred years. Lefke is a very picturesque town featuring the Roman ruins at Soli with well-preserved mosaic from 5 000 b.c. (see photo) and the hilltop palace of Vouni.
There are two universities in the area: first – Lefke European University (see photo) is founded, second university in the area is Middle East Technical University. The university started education in 2005. The construction of the campus is continuing till now. The university will be the biggest university of Cyprus when the whole campus completed.
